Natural Food and Diets
Natural food is the description given to foods that are not altered or processed in any way. These are the type of foods that our bodies can process easily and are good for us nutritionally. Natural foods include nuts, fruit, vegetables ,herbs, whole grains, legumes, unprocessed meat and sea food.
In these modern times it is often hard to find pure natural food for our bodies ,even some of the basic food we think is natural can some times be deceiving as it could be genetically modified or grown using herbicides and pesticides. Some food is also unnaturally grown like chicken and some other animals that are often fed with hormones and antibiotics to enhance their growth and inhibit disease, but these hormones and antibiotics can be absorbed into the meat and also affect our own health when we eat these products. Grow your own herbs and vegetables. By Growing your own vegetables or buying certified organically grown fruit and vegetables you will at least be able to control some of the natural food you consume. Try to buy free range eggs from certified free range farms as the chickens at least have a more natural diet. It is often hard to find out if these chickens are truly free range as some dubious companies just let the chickens roam around in huge sheds and still call them free range. Proper free range eggs come from chickens who are allowed to roam about on farms or back gardens eating grass and hunting small insects etc. are a good source of natural food high in vitamins and protein. Eating meat from grass fed animals such as cows and sheep is much better for you than those in a feed lot which are fed on processed grains and pumped full of synthetic vitamins and growth hormones. The same can be said of sea food as a lot of fish and prawns and other seafood in supermarkets these days is from fish farms where the fish are fed processed unnatural foods which contain growth hormones and antibiotics and other unnatural ingredients . Although some times even wild caught fish can be contaminated if they are caught in rivers and estuaries close to industrial pollution. The best fish to buy is deep sea types like ocean cod and other ocean species . When buying grains and cereals try to find those certified as organically produced. Avoid processed spreads and oils. Try to avoid processed oils and spreads ,fresh organic cold pressed oils are more healthier for you and haven't been hydrolyzed or had preservatives added to them. Organic butter and cheeses are better for you than processed margarine and canola type spreads.Nuts and seeds are a good source of natural oils, vitamins and minerals.A ripe avocado spread on your toast in the morning is a tastier and healthier alternative to margarine.Butter in small quantities is also better than processed oils. Canola oil is used in so many processed products these days including cooking oils margarine's animal foods . Canola is a genetically modified plant which stemmed from the rape seed plant. Rapeseed oil was produced in the 19th century as a source of a lubricant for steam engines . It was then less useful as food for animals or humans because it has a bitter taste due to high levels of glucosinolates. Varieties have now been bred to reduce the content of glucosinolates, yielding a more palatable oil. This has had the side effect that the oil contains much less erucic acid.Natural rapeseed oil contains 50% of this type of compound. Wild seeds also contain high levels of glucosinolates, (mustard oil glucosindes), chemical compounds that significantly lowered the nutritional value of rapeseed press cakes for animal feed. In North America, the term canola — a contraction of Canada and ola, for "oil" — came into usage in the 1980s to distinguish it from the more unsavoury term "rapeseed". Processing of rapeseed for oil production produces rapeseed meal as a byproduct. The by-product is a high-protein animal feed, competitive with soya The feed is employed mostly for cattle feeding, but also for pigs and chicken. The meal has a low content of the glucosinolates responsible for metabolism disruption in cattle and pigs. Neither canola nor soy is recommended as feed for organic animal products, because both canola and soy are predominantly genetically modified, especially in America, with some estimates now at 90%. Genetically modified products are prohibited by organic standards. Toxicity :The use of glucosinolate-containing crops as primary food source for animals has negative effects.Glucosinolates are well known for their toxic effects (mainly as goitrogens) in both humans and animals at high doses.
